More Details on the new BMW S1000 RR
We rode the BMW S1000RR at Anglesey for the BMW Motorrad Academy and were mightly impressed with it - but now there’s a new one and it looks even better.
We loved the fact that, while the bike is amazing on the track - it also has the same creature comforts of many of BMW’s road bikes. Unlike some of the other big 1000cc bikes, it actually feels like a bike that has had some proper thought into converting it for the road.
Hopefully, all the talk of making this new version “geared towards pure performance” doesn’t change too much. But we can expect a new steering angle sensor with Brake Slide Assist and Slide Control as well as the integration of M components and improvements to the electronics.
New winglets can apparently generate up to 17kg of downforce - although you’ll have to be doing 300kmh to reach that, so in reality, they won’t do much for the majority of your time riding it - other than looking ugly, of course.
There’s a slight increase of 3bhp to the rock-solid engine (not that you’ll notice) - but it’s now got the airbox from the M 1000 RR (not sure if that’s the old one or the new one) and there’s a few other M tweaks, to ensure a little bit more straight-line speed.
Reading through the press release, there’s not a whole lot that stands out - it’s all about small changes to add up to smidges of increased performance… plus an even better screen.
Honestly, it doesn’t seem like that much has been changed - but that’s great because it means a 2021 model will cheaper now. Huurah!
