Triumph TE-1 Prototype complete. But will it be produced?

Triumph is all-in on the development of their TE-1 electric bike. But will it actually make it to production?

We can’t deny that the figures released are impressive. In testing, we saw a 161km / 100mile range - at least in theory anyway, as these are supposedly based on “live testing and official projections”. So in other words… there’s not enough data to know the actual range but there’s enough to make a good guess. Although, an 80% charge can be achieved in just 20 minutes (but no mention of what sort of charger is required).

But with 130 kW (177PS / 175bhp) peak power - even if the range doesn’t end up being as good as Triumph is claiming it to be, that’s enough to put a smile on your face in the twisties. Thanks to the instant torque on hand, it’ll do 0-60pm on 3.6 seconds and 0-100mph in 6.2 seconds.

What makes that particularly interesting is that it can do that sort of acceleration despite weighing 220kg - which is actually relatively light for an electric bike. Batteries are heavy.

The bike actually has a whiff of Formula One about it - as it’s been produced through a collaboration with William Advanced Engineering.

So it all looks rather good, doesn’t it? Shame there’s no mention of whether they’re actually going to make it.
