Ducati launches Moster SP
The 2021 Ducati Monster has just received an update, with its new SP version.
We’ve always liked the Monster - and while there’s not a huge amount of difference between this and the standard model (other than the price tag, of course), we’ve already fired off an email in anticipation of being able to ride one.
It’s not too encouraging that the first feature Ducati is keen to focus on is the new livery, based on the Ducati Lenovo Team's Desmosedici GP, and the golden anodizing on the Öhlins NIX30 fork. But what’s more important is that the fork is 0.6kg lighter than the one used on the Monster and Monster+ and is calibrated to be sportier (read firmer and less comfortable).
The brakes have been updated too, with new Brembo calipers, which drop the weight by another half a kilo - and with the addition of a new lithium-ion battery, it brings the total weight loss to 2kg. Doesn’t sound like much right? Well, that’s because it’s not. BUT at least that is after you take into account the addition of the steering damper and windshield.
You also get some new Pirelli tyres, which… sure, okay. But the biggest changes are the steering damper and a recalibration of the riding modes which are supposedly aimed at making the bike safer on wet surfaces. And we’re sure the fact that Ducati wants to really emphasise this has nothing to do with the fact that this is going to be their biggest update before winter. It’s just a coincidence.
All-in-all, there are not a whole lot of changes that have been made, and while we haven’t seen any prices yet - it’s bound to be expensive and probably not worth the extra cash.
Watch it sell out.
The Ducati Monster SP will arrive in dealerships starting from January 2023, also in a depowered version for riding with an A2 license.
